Meet the Teacher
Ethiopia 2011
My name is Austen Farney. I am a current student at St. Joseph's College. My major is Elementary Education and my minor is Exceptional Needs Education. This semester I will be co-teaching alongside Mrs. Muzek in her first grade classroom at Rensselaer Primary. I am excited for a great semester!
I grew up near Brookston, IN. I have a dog named Rucker he is a Miniature Golden-Doodle. I absolutely love animals. My favorite animal is a giraffe. I also love to read. My favorite books are children's picture books. My favorite author is Mo Willems.
This past Winter Break my lifelong dream came true! I had always dreamed of traveling to Africa. I studied abroad through St. Joseph's College Core Program. I traveled for 2 weeks in Ethiopia. I had a great experience. I am looking forward to returning to Ethiopia in the future.
I strive to see the creativity in all of my students. My students can expect the same from me. I will do my best to challenge all of my students and meet their various needs and ability levels. I will implement numerous projects, hands on activities, and place-based learning activities in the classroom.

Upon finishing my co-teaching experience, my cooperating teacher (along with a little help from our technology teacher Mr. Wynn) assisted our students in creating a "thank you" video. This video still brings tears to my eyes! I will cherish this video forever.
